La Regina 1904 Arandas MX

Located on Calle Cristóbal Colón Mora is an aesthetically pleasing restaurant near the heart of Arandas main plaza. Arandas is a town in Jalisco, Mexico not too far from where I vacation every summer. I had heard good things about this restaurant from many people so my family and I decided to try it out.

As I said before, I had heard many people rave about this restaurant. How the food was SO good and the drinks were even better. Everyone and their moms had posted about La Regina 1904 on their snap chat stories, and curiosity got the best of me. I took my family to go try it out and see what the hype was all about.

When I first walked up to the building I was greeted with a stone building with bars that covered the windows. Blue flags that said La Regina 1904 lined the sides of the building adding a pop of color to the neutral colored building. My initial reaction was that you could take really good Instagram photos because of how aesthetically pleasing it was.

One of the many things I saw on people's snap chat stories was a red drink. It was the first thing I ordered when I got to the restaurant. La Regina had a whole menu dedicated to their delicious drinks. The red drinks name was "la vieja roja" which translates to the red lady in English. It tasted exactly like the very berry hibiscus refresher from Starbucks. It had pulps from strawberries, blackberries and blue berries at the bottom to add to the drink and was topped off with fresh berries and a mint leaf. Most of their drinks come in a signature square cup that says La Regina on it.

Another one of the many things I saw on people's stories was guacamole with crickets on top. Disgusting I know! I could never eat crickets even if someone paid me to do it. The guac was really good minus the cricket part. I had to eat around them and hope I didn't catch one in my chip.

For appetizer my family and I ordered Queso Panela with Jamaica Reduction. It's pretty much just fried cheese with a fruity sauce for decoration. It was pretty good since it was just fried cheese. After about 2 bites you would get tired of it though. My brother, who LOVES cheese, ate the whole thing.

For another appetizer ,since that's all my dad likes to order, we got pork belly tacos. I personally hated them so much because of the texture but my parents and sister ate them up. I was also recovering from the stomach bug so I didn't really enjoy all of the food as much as I would have if I would have been healthy. I personally just don't like pork belly that much I have tried it in ramen and thought it was gross.

You guessed it.. another appetizer. This time we got tuna tostadas which was raw tuna in a dark chile sauce on a hard tortilla. This had to of been the worst thing I had ever tried. The sauce that the tuna was covered in was DISGUSTING. I mean I didn't know something could taste that bad.

In conclusion the restaurant was very over hyped. From what I had the food was not good, at all. The only good part about it was the red drink that tasted like Starbucks and the guacamole with crickets in it.
